Gerald Dunst is the owner from “Sonnenerde” – a soil producing company where 30 different soils based on compost were produced and marketed. Since 2007 he is responsible for the humus-project in the ecoregion Kaindorf in Austria, where 400 farmers with 5.000 hectares are involved. In this project the farmers get money for increasing carbon in soils from a new developed carbon credit system. Since 2012 he operate a biochar facility (pyreg) and produce 200 tons of high quality biochar every year. Since this time a lot of different products were developed from this biochar like Terra Preta, soil-activator, compost-activator, feed char and slurry char. Together with his son DI Dominik Dunst he has founded the company “CharLine” to market this biochar products international. Since 2023 a new biochar facility is in continuous operation and produce around 1.000 tons of biochar per year. The main feedstock are screening residues from the composting process.
