Michael Carus, a graduate physicist, worked as a scientist at various institutes in the Rhineland, some of them in leading positions for long periods. There, he conducted numerous scientific projects on industrial hemp (fibers, shives, seeds) and cannabis (THC, CBD). Together with leading companies, he founded the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) in 2005, serving as its managing director for 13 years (until 2018). During this time, he also organized the world's largest hemp conferences and was awarded several hemp prizes. Carus is also the author and co-author of numerous books on hemp and cannabis, some of them together with Dr. Franjo Grotenhermen.
